Takes an Extraordinary Character to feel Ordinary Love

U2’s new song of the Mandela movie soundtrack. Something touched me deeply when I heard the song. Not only was it released a few days before the death of Mandela, but it also preached  a universal empathy that is lacking. Pundits would do well to heed the words “I can’t fight you anymore. It’s you I’m fighting for”.

Only a Mandela and someone of his ilk could understand the value of conciliatory politics and that majority rule should not be mistaken for the tyranny of the majority. He sought leadership not through animosity, fear-mongering, and divisiveness, but through the unwavering commitment to virtue and unity, coupled with the clear mind of a witty politician and the calm serenity of a true man-of-letters.
